Dear valued client,
In view of the recent SMS phishing and bogus call attacks, we would like to provide a few important security tips to protect you and your loved ones from cybercrimes.
How can you identify phishing SMS?
Cybercriminals would send you SMS with malicious links that lead you to fake websites or malicious software to steal your personal information.
Remember, we would never send you SMS asking you to:
- Provide credentials (e.g. digital banking username and password)
- Provide one-time password (OTP)
- Download the banking app via a hyperlink
- Reveal your personal information to receive any prize or reward

Four security tips to safeguard yourself
Keep your contact details updated – Ensure your registered contact details (e.g. phone number, email address) with us are up-to-date to receive latest updates on cybercrimes.
Think before you read – Be extra vigilant for purported SMS from the Bank. Also, please opt in for in-app push notifications in SC Mobile to get notified via a secured channel, as many of our notifications* have been migrated to in-app push notifications.
Authenticate before you act – Whenever you are in doubt about either the sender or the message, contact us at 2888 8868 immediately.

Watch out for bogus calls purportedly from e-commerce sites
Beware of bogus calls purportedly from e-commerce sites. Never disclose your credit or debit card details, including credit or debit card number, expiry date, CVV or one-time passwords (OTPs) to suspicious callers. Please note that legitimate e-commerce sites will never ask you to respond to an SMS to confirm or cancel a bank transaction.
If in doubt, request the caller’s contact details. Then, verify the hotline number(s) provided with the Bank before calling. If you suspect that you have inadvertently disclosed any personal information after receiving a bogus phone call, or calling a phoney bank hotline number, then please contact our staff at 2886-8868 (press 2-6-0) or report to the Police immediately.
Remember, we will neither request for your password or security information by phone call, email or SMS., nor do we notify anyone of account irregularities through pre-recorded voice messages. If you are suspicious, close the mobile app or web browser and contact us at 2888 8868 immediately.

Remark:
* The following notifications have been migrated to push notifications in the SC Mobile app: fund transfer, bill payment, cash withdrawal, POS purchase, inward transfer via FPS, QR cash withdrawal instruction expired, cheque returned, credit card payment due date, time deposit maturity, bank notice update, investment market view and foreign exchange price alert.
The responses you provided will be collected on an anonymous basis, which will be processed by us in confidence for the purposes of evaluating our products and conducting related analysis. NO personal or confidential information will be collected. Please be reminded NOT to disclose or input any personal or confidential information.
Why type in website URLs into browser instead of clicking? To safeguard your personal information against inappropriate use or unauthorised access, genuine emails sent by Standard Chartered will never embed any hyperlink directly to the online or mobile banking login page, or request you to provide or confirm login details for online banking or personal information. We understand that you are accustomed to clicking on links and logging in directly, but typing our correct website address on the online browser address bar ensures you are accessing the Standard Chartered website.
