What is phishing SMS / email?
|
Phishing SMS/email contains a hyperlink directing you to a website purported to be the online banking website. The fraudulent website collects your username and password, or even the One-Time password, in order to transfer money out of your account.

How to identify phishing SMS and email?
|
|
- SMS message does not start with ‘SCBHK’.
- Grammatical or spelling mistakes.
- Hyperlink to online banking login.
We would not send SMS or email with hyperlink directing to the online banking login page.

Always log in to online banking by typing the URL ‘sc.com/hk’ directly in your web browser or via ‘SC Mobile Hong Kong’ app downloaded from App Store or Google Play. |

- Suspicious origin.
Never open email that looks suspicious or comes from unknown sender.
- Urgent action required.
The phishing SMS or email usually pretends to be an important message from the bank with a sense of urgency created, and suggests you to click on its hyperlink or open its attachments.
- Hyperlink to online banking login.
We would not send SMS or email with hyperlink directing to the online banking login page.

Always check the URL of the website before visiting. Mouse over the link and check the URL. Do not click if it looks suspicious. |
- Suspicious attachment.
If you are suspicious of an attachment, do not open it.
